Modern Family

Who doesn’t love this show? After coming home from a busy day at work and you know it’s Wednesday night, yes you know what that means! Time to put your pj’s on, sit back, relax and get ready for some fun filled laughs. If you haven’t seen this show, then you are really missing out from some really good laugh! Modern Family is a documentary style comedy about three branches of the extended Pritchett family. It follows the families of Jay Pritchett (Ed O’Neill), his daughter Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), and his son Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) who live in Los Angeles. Claire is a homemaker mom married to Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell); they have three children. Jay is married to a much younger Colombian woman, Gloria (Sofía Vergara), and is helping her raise her pre-teen son, Manny. Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and his partner Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) have adopted a Vietnamese baby, Lily. Modern Family premiered on ABC in September 2009 as part of the network’s new Wednesday comedy lineup, and was immediately met with positive reviews and strong ratings, becoming the breakout show of the night.

On August 29, 2010, Modern Family won Oustanding Comedy Series, Outstandig Writing for a Comedy Series (for the pilot episode), and Oustanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Eric Stonestreet). The show also later received a GLSEN Respect Award for its portrayal of positive images and storylines that reflect a diverse America, including the depiction of a family headed by a gay couple. In 2010, the cast won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy. On July 14, 2011, the series received 17 Emmy nominations, the third most nominations for the year. In 2012, the show won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series. I see more awards headed their way in the future! The show makes you realize how truly wonderful their family is and how you wish you could be a part of 🙂

  1. It’s a comedy series, but at the end of each episode you’ll have more reasons why you love family (or at least their family). I feel good everytime I watch this!
